Amidst multiple bans against abortion, gender affirming care, knowledge and personal power out of South Carolina, this week The State and Jezebel reported that an arrest had been made of a woman accused of attempting to self-manage an abortion in the state of South Carolina. While many details specific to this case remain out of reach at this time, we want to be clear: criminalizing pregnancy outcomes, regardless of circumstance, harms us all. The future of abortion and healthcare in South Carolina should rest in the hands of South Carolinian people— not law enforcement.
