South Carolina 6-Week Ban Upheld (8/23/23)

Appointments are being canceled and folks are being turned away from clinics and hospitals as a result of today’s abhorrent ruling from South Carolina’s Supreme Court, banning abortions after six weeks.

We’re writing this statement with a folder open in another tab, scanning our previous statements and feeling the persistent weight of having been here before. But much like last timethe eternal metric to which we are bound–we’re in community. What has carried us through every threat and promise made good to erode our sense of freedom and bodily autonomy is the knowledge that justice can only be delayed, not denied. We live for next time. We organize, fight, yell, and fund today.

So let us be clear: we are still funding and coordinating care for South Carolinians. We are deeply grateful for our legal counsel helping us navigate the boundaries of our support network; the safety of our callers remains our number one priority. We’ve seen better, and we’ve seen worse. We exist to serve the Carolinas–and we do so not as dispassionate third-party observers but as people who call this part of the world home. We remain committed to you, to your sibling, to your neighbor–to our neighbors, to ourselves.
